Events, lists, attachments and the rest of your family’s data are stored with Google Firebase in the europe-west1 region in Belgium, so within the EU. Photos you use to create an event are processed by Google in Frankfurt; they do not leave the EU. The contracting party is Google Ireland. Access by the US parent company, for example for support, is possible and is safeguarded by EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. All service providers are listed in the privacy policy.

Yes — Art. 20 GDPR. Under Settings → App info → Export my data, you download your complete data export as a JSON file. Your events are also available as an ICS file under Settings → Export my events. No forms, no support ticket.

The iPhone and Android apps are available on the App Store and Google Play in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. From anywhere else, or if you prefer to skip the store, use the web app in your browser; you can install it on any smartphone as a PWA, with the same data as in the apps. Home and lock screen widgets are only available in the apps.

Yes, that is what your own calendars alongside the family calendar are for, freely named for school, studies, a club or work. Events in them do not appear in the family calendar unless you share them explicitly. For each calendar you decide which fields show up in the event form at all, and a timetable subscribed via ICS can be assigned straight to that calendar. Your own calendars are part of Premium.

Under Everyday there are eleven tools: polls, shopping list, tasks and chores with stars, weekly meals, wishlist, packing list, emergency contacts, family tree, time clock, finances and location sharing. Most of them are there for the whole family — on the shopping list, for instance, every item shows who added it and when. Eight of them cost nothing; with the family tree, only the PDF export needs Premium. The time clock, the finances and location sharing are part of Premium, and only the family's admins see the finances. You arrange the tools yourself and hide whatever you do not need.

Yes, with Premium. In the Everyday section under Location you show your family on a map where you are: once for an hour, live for as long as you choose, or when someone asks you “Where are you?”. Everyone shares their own location and sees who can see it. Live sharing in the app on your phone keeps running until the time you chose or until you stop it, also when the app is in the background or the screen is off. In the browser, your location only updates while the page is open. If you swipe the app away completely or restart your phone, updates stop until you open the app again. Public holidays and school holidays are included for Switzerland, Germany and Austria. For Switzerland that covers all 26 cantons, for Germany and Austria it goes by federal state. You pick your region once, and the dates then sit in the calendar. If you live elsewhere, you can subscribe to a suitable calendar via ICS.

Four: German, English, French and Italian. Each member changes the language in the settings for themselves. So there is no need to agree on one if two languages are spoken in the family.

No, Premium covers the whole family and not each person. One person subscribes, and after that Premium applies to every member. The finances, and linking and sharing with families you know, are reserved for the family's admins. It costs CHF 2.00 a month or CHF 20 a year and can be cancelled at any time. The yearly plan comes with a seven-day free trial.

Nothing is deleted. The family calendar carries on free of charge, and your events, lists and the family tree stay. The free limits apply again: four accounts, one subscribed calendar, three polls, two attachments per event. Whatever already exists beyond them stays; anything new beyond them, such as further calendars of your own, needs a subscription again. The Premium features themselves, such as creating events from a photo or sharing events with families you know, come back with a new subscription. Existing links with families you know and events already shared stay. The time clock stays readable; the finances are locked until your next subscription, but their data stays stored.
